Bridge Description

The 17th Street Bridge is comprised of a 130-foot wide and 830-foot long linear structure that spans 21 lanes of interstate. The bridge features 6 vehicular traffic lanes, bicycle lanes, and a dedicated area for passenger rail and extra-wide pedestrian sidewalks. Known as the “Gateway to Atlanta,” the 17th Street Bridge spans the gulf created by the Downtown Connector, the combination of I-75 and I-85 in the heart of downtown Atlanta. The opening of the 17th Street Bridge in 2004 made it possible for pedestrians and bicyclists to cross the Downtown Connector, which had previously separated two densely populated areas of the city of Atlanta.
